Το Vinyl Monthly Ιανουαρίου συγκεντρώνει ειδικευμένους dealers, ανεξάρτητες δισκογραφικές, τρελλούς συλλέκτες και εξωτικούς disc jockeys σε μία κούρσα μουσικής απόλαυσης. 

Δίσκοι σπάνιοι, δίσκοι από όλο τον κόσμο, δίσκοι παλιοί, δίσκοι καινούργιοι, δίσκοι σε προσφορά. 

DJ-set με jazz, beat, soul και r&b 45άρια σε αυθεντικό ηχοσύστημα discotheque του 1967. Παίζουν mod djs, beat συλλέκτες και cool jazzmen.

David Bowie and Elvis Presley have many similarities and Presley also served as inspiration for some aspects of the Ziggy Stardust phenomenon:

1) They share the same birthday - January 8^th (1935 for Elvis and 1947 for Bowie).

2) Bowie says that he first discovered the power of music when he saw his cousin get up and dance to Elvis's "Hound Dog."

3) Both Elvis and Bowie experimented and got into trouble with their hair styles at high school (Elvis appearing in a Mohawk and Bowie cutting his hair very short before this was fashionable).

4) Bowie and Elvis were both on the same record label - RCA.

5) Bowie was a big fan of Elvis. At short notice he crossed the Atlantic on a plane to attend an Elvis concert in New York in June 1972 even though he had a strong fear of flying at the time and would travel by other means whenever possible.

"[Elvis] was a major hero of mine. And I was probably stupid enough to believe that having the same birthday as him actually meant something. I came over for a long weekend. I remember coming straight from the airport and walking into Madison Square Garden very late. I was wearing all my clobber from the Ziggy period and had great seats near the front. The whole place just turned to look at me and I felt like a right idiot. I had brilliant red hair, some huge padded space suit and those red boots with big black soles. I wished I'd gone for something quiet, because I must have registered with him. He was well into his set." - Bowie (1996)

6) Bowie's manager - Tony DeFries - was a big fan of Elvis's manager Colonel Tom Parker and would quote from Parker's book to anyone who would listen.

7) Bowie says that he largely based the character of Ziggy Stardust on the eccentric American rocker Vince Taylor who moved to France and worked as an Elvis impersonator. Known as the "French Presley" he appeared on stage one night in white robes and said that he was Jesus Christ. End of career.

8) Bowie had clothes designer and friend Freddi Burretti copy Elvis's on-stage white jump-suit for Bowie's own use at Ziggy Stardust concerts. Bowie typically would change into it before his trademark finale - "Rock n Roll Suicide."

9) Tony DeFries used the announcement "David Bowie has left the building" as was done for Elvis Presley concerts.

10) The lighting-bolt motif Bowie wore for the ALADDIN SANE album cover was partly inspired by a ring that Elvis wore - which had a lightning bolt emblem along with the letters TCB (Taking Care of The Business).

11) The reissued single "Space Oddity" (see below) was released in Thailand in December 1972 accompanied by Elvis Presley's "Fool" as the B-side (RCA 003).

12) Elvis showed some interest in recording Bowie's song "Golden Years" but died before this could happen.

Mirel Wagner

Mirel Wagner is a 23 year old singer/songwriter, born in Ethiopia and raised

in Espoo, Finland.  Since age 16 she's writing gloomy Blues and Folk songs,

stripped down to the bone. It's just about her airy but rough voice and a

minimalistic guitar picking. Avoiding theatralic gestures effortlessly her

music has a unique intensity and emotional weight. 

The selftitled debut got released in Finland and receives raving praise from the local media. Her music and approach has been vaguely compared to Mazzy Star, Leonard Cohen, Bobby Gentry, Nick Cave and such.

The Blue Room

Η ιδέα δημιουργήθηκε τις παραμονές του Record Store Day το 2011. Σκέφτηκα "γιατί να μην μπορούμε και εμείς να οργανώσουμε ένα ξεχωριστό event στο δισκοπωλείο μας όταν στο εξωτερικό ανάλογα πράγματα οργανώνονται κάθε τρεις και λίγο." Μέσα σε μια εβδομάδα ο χώρος της αποθήκης μας είχε διαμορφωθεί σε ένα χώρο ο οποίος στις 16 Απριλίου θα φιλοξενούσε τους My Drunken Haze οι οποίοι μας τίμησαν παίζοντας ένα πολύ ιδιαίτερο set σε ένα χώρο με μηδαμινές προδιαγραφές μεν, αρκετά υποσχόμενο δε.

Εκείνη ακριβώς τη μέρα έριξα την ιδέα στον σκηνοθέτη Μιχάλη Καφαντάρη για το αν έβλεπε προοπτική σε αυτόν το μικρό χώρο και με εξέπληξε λέγοντας όχι μόνο ότι υπήρχε κάτι καλό να γίνει αλλά ήταν πρόθυμος να βοηθήσει για να το φτιάξουμε. Πέρασαν κάνα-δυο μήνες και αποφασίσαμε να εκμεταλλευτούμε την "χαλαρότητα" του καλοκαιριού για να κλειστούμε στο υπόγειο πίσω από τη Φωκίωνος, οπλισμένοι με μπόλικες ιδέες, αρκετό χρόνο, άφθονο γέλιο και σχεδόν καθόλου χρήματα. Μερικά λίτρα καφέ & μπογιάς, άφθονο χαρτί, ναύλον και άπειρους συνδετήρες συρραπτικού αργότερα ο κύριος όγκος της δουλειάς είχε γίνει και το μόνο που έλειπε ήταν ένας αξιοπρεπής φωτισμός για να μπορούμε να πούμε ότι ο χώρος είναι έτοιμος να λειτουργήσει και να προσφέρει σε εμάς τη χαρά της διοργάνωσης, στους συμμετέχοντες καλλιτέχνες (και μη) τη χαρά της παρουσίασης του έργου τους και στους επισκέπτες του την ευκαιρία να συμμετέχουν σε μια εκδήλωση προετοιμασμένη με αγάπη.

Το θέμα του φωτισμού τακτοποιήθηκε μέσα στον Δεκέμβριο του 2011 και έτσι στις 16 του μηνός ήμασταν έτοιμοι για τη πρώτη "επίσημη" εκδήλωση στο Blue Room, την παρουσίαση του βιβλίου της Βάσιας Τζανακάρη "Τζόνι & Λούλου".

Η σύνθεση των ομιλητών και μόνο ήταν εγγύηση για μια πετυχημένη βραδιά, Στυλιανός Τζιρίτας και Χάρης Συμβουλίδης καθώς και η Βάσια είχαν ωραία πράγματα να πουν, για το βιβλίο αλλά και για τα περί αυτού και να συζητήσουν ειδικά αλλά και γενικότερα θέματα με τους παρευρισκόμενους. Ο μικρός χώρος ήταν γεμάτος και όσοι παρεβρέθηκαν φάνηκε να περνάνε καλά. Το οποίο ήταν και το ζητούμενο. Μετά από την συζήτηση ακούσαμε μουσική από το mixtape των Τζόνι & Λούλου, δοκιμάσαμε ωραία κουλουράκια & ήπιαμε τα ποτά μας σε μια ατμόσφαιρα που βρίσκεις μόνο όταν μαζεύονται παλιοί & νέοι φίλοι με καλή διάθεση.

Προσωπικά θέλω να ευχαριστήσω όσους βοήθησαν για να στηθεί ο χώρος, όσους μερίμνησαν για να μην μείνει κανείς φιλοξενούμενος παραπονεμένος και όσους μας εμπιστεύτηκαν για να περάσουν ένα ωραίο βράδυ.

Αποχαιρετήσαμε το 2011 με το τελευταίο Vinyl Monthly της χρονιάς στην αίθουσα της λέσχης Athens A Go Go. Ο χώρος απο μόνος του είναι όμορφος και "μαζεύει" τα θετικά σχόλια με τις δεκάδες αλλά και οι χιλιάδες δίσκοι που εκμεταλλεύονται τη φιλοξενία του περιμένοντας να ξανά αγαπηθούν δίνουν σίγουρα πολλές ξεχωριστές νότες στην ατμόσφαιρα. Νότες που όταν μπλέκονται με τους ρυθμούς που ξεπηδάν απο τη βελόνα του πικ-απ που υπάρχει στο χώρο σε πάνε απο μια έως πέντε δεκαετίες πίσω.

Στη χρονιά που έφυγε εδραιώθηκε πλέον ένα σταθερό μέρος συνάντησης για όλους όσους ενδιαφέρονται για το βινύλιο και τη μουσική, κάθε τελευταίο σαββατοκύριακο του μήνα. Σταθερά σημεία βέβαια αποτελούν και τα δισκοπωλεία (που καταβάλουν πραγματικά τεράστια προσπάθεια να παραμείνουν ανοιχτά και να αποτελούν ένα ιδιαίτερο σημείο αναφοράς σε κάθε γειτονιά) αλλά η ατμόσφαιρα του παζαριού πάντα έχει κάτι το εορταστικό και ξεχωριστό.

Στα θετικά σημεία σίγουρα καταλογίζεται η προσέλευση φίλων του βινυλίου και της μουσικής από μικρές ηλικίες που τώρα ξεκινάνε να οικειοποιούνται τις συλλογές των γονιών-αδερφών-θείων και προσπαθούν να τις εμπλουτίσουν και απο "βετεράνους" που δεν πίστευαν ότι θα έχουν ξανά την ευκαιρία να βρεθούν μπροστά σε τέτοια ποικιλία δίσκων, αν και οι χαρακτηριστικοί anoraks που "μυρίζονται" τα δισκοπάζαρα απο χιλιόμετρα σε κάνουν να αισθάνεσαι ότι μερικά πράγματα δεν αλλάζουν ποτέ.

Όσο αφορά στους πωλητές, πάντα απαρτίζουν ένα ενδιαφέρον κράμα επαγγελματιών του χώρου αλλά και ιδιωτών , των οποίων οι πάγκοι πάντα θα αποτελούν τις ευχάριστες εκπλήξεις για τους τακτικούς θαμώνες.

Ως συμμετέχοντες, είτε ως πωλητές, είτε ως πελάτες θα θέλαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε τον Μιχάλη και τη λέσχη Athens A Go Go για τη φιλοξενία, τα κορίτσια του Belle Epoque για το bartending, όλους όσους είτε ως πελάτες, είτε ως "περίεργοι" πέρασαν μια βόλτα και έφυγαν με κάτι που θα κάνει το πικ-απ τους περήφανο και αυτούς χαρούμενους και τους "συναδέλφους" πωλητές για τη παρέα!

Στο βραχίονα του πικ-απ μας είναι να κάνουμε το 2012 ακόμα καλύτερο! Ραντεβού στις 28 και 29 Ιανουαρίου!
